Bayswater
lies on the northern border of Kensington Gardens, adjacent to Hyde
Park. Its a very popular district for visitors to stay with good reason
- some of the best value accommodation in London coupled with very
good links to all the main attractions.
The heart of Bayswater is the High Street (Queensway), pictured right.
This has two underground stations, Bayswater and Queensway only about
100m apart (see Bayswater
Map). Probably more than 50% of shops along here are eating opportunities.

Restaurants
The main
focus for restaurants in the district is Queensway itself. Along here
are every kind of restaurant you can think of.
Independent restaurants include Italian, Indian, steak houses, pizza
restaurants - you name the cuisine its probably here.
In the neighbouring streets you will find more restaurants scattered
more thinly.
All the fast food outlets and chains like Pizza Hut are here as well
as countless pubs serving traditional pub food
Shops
Queensway
is dominated by small shops, mostly food related. Coffee shops abound.
Boots have three branches along the road for pharmacy requirements.
A couple of Tesco metro stores and a Spar supermarket provide basic
foodstuffs.Tesco
are open from 07:00 to 23:00, Spar an hour later. Boots are open until
22:00. Shops in UK open 7 days a week

At
the end of Queensway is Whiteleys Shopping centre. From the outside
it looks like an old fashioned department store, inside its like any
modern multilevel shopping mall. Like all such shopping malls you'll
find here the clothes and specialist shops with the standard food
mall on the top floor. Whiteleys is open until late 7 days a week,
but doesn't open until midday Sunday.
There are several launderettes/dry cleaners in the district, very
handy for the budget visitor (see Bayswater
map - ref 17). |
Public
Transport
On
Queensway there are two underground stations, Queensway and Bayswater.
For most visitors this seems to be the preferred mode of travel.
Queues for tickets can be long early morning. A good tip is to get
your London Travelcard from an independent outlet to avoid the queues
- it costs no more. Ramadan newsagents are midway up Queensway opposite
KFC, the Bayswater Hotel by the bus stop on Bayswater Road are two
such outlets |
