Stansted
Airport is London's third airport in terms of passengers and flights.
The airport currently has about 21 million passengers a year with
flights to over 150 destinations in 34 countries.
Stansted is the fourth busiest airport in the UK, the fastest-growing
major airport in Europe, and the main home of the leading low-cost
scheduled airlines. |

Stansted Airport is dominated by the low cost budget airlines. All
routes worth speaking about are within Europe. A small but significant
proportion of flights are charter flights for the British to the sun. |

The
dominant carriers at Stansted are Ryanair
and easyJet.
Both Ryanair and easyJet fly to all the main domestic cities within
the United Kingdom and most countries within 2 or 3 hours flying time.

Small
regional airlines fly to the Channel Islands, Shetland and Faroe Islands
and Manchester also.
Being North of London, Stansted is much used by Scandinavian low cost
airlines to Norway, Iceland etc.
For a brief period, Stansted became the London terminus of low cost
business airlines to the USA, EOS and Maxjet both failing. The only
surviving airline operating the low cost business model is Silverjet
that operates out of Luton Airport.
There is also significant charter traffic, mostly taking the British
to the sun. A lot of these flights have flight only tickets available. |
